Process Post 2
Installing and immediate reactions to WordPress.
This one is a short one, because if I don’t contain myself I might just rant indefinitely.
Experience
Installation was easy-peasy. So far, the experience of getting used to WordPress has been frustrating. Being reduced to a clunky WYSIWYG system where I have no idea where anything is… yeah… hate it. The choices so far are: pay some plug-in money to continue the abusive cycle of “AnY oNe CaN bE a DeSiGnEr!” or build from scratch, with an uncertain degree of success given the limited timeframe I have. But then again, if I was supposed to build a website, why WordPress at all? I hope the experience picks up because, right now, working with WordPress is a miserable mess.
Further, being forced onto some generic theme, even for the time being, is a nightmare. Everything is experimental for now, but it would be a lie to say I’m pleased. So far, WordPress is just three for-profit plug-ins hiding in a trench coat. Wow, so cool.
Rationalities
Well, I had to choose something, didn’t I? So I chose this retro-looking theme to get me started. I needed to buy a little time while I figured this WordPress out. It doesn’t matter how many wireframes and sitemaps I build if I can’t figure out how to actualize them. So here we are… its a bit like a 90s site, which I don’t mind. I’d rather it be a simple 90s site than anything else. Perhaps if things become more intuitive during the coming months, it’ll make more sense to redesign with complexity, but for the time being, the 90s is good. At least it’s easier to navigate.
